I have often been asked whether or not I am a regular blood donor. My answer is NO. I am not. And the reason that I am not has various sub-reasons.
I disagree with much of what I have seen practiced by the medical industry. Whenever I see guilt used instead of sharing currency, I become suspicious. And I disagree with any type of practice depending on that and most of all seeing the ones financially benefiting not sharing anything. To make a long story short:
1) It is true that giving cash to blood donors might attract the wrong ones causing them to lie
But entering you in a raffle or donating money to a charity other than theirs on your behalf should not attract junkies who are too busy scoring a 20 elsewhere. Deeper details gone into here.
2) In most cases of an emergency, O negative blood is given
Now do you know why blood banks harass you? And now you know why, whenever an O negative needs a transfusion, there tends to be a waiting time sometimes far too long to be acceptable?
This is why I believe in being a stand-by donor making sure those only able to receive my blood type are being taken care of the way I wish to be taken care of if I am ever in that situation.
